Kids These Days
7th - 12th grade I had perfect attendance, what a colossal dork I was. My mother would have sent me to school on a gurney rather than keep me home. I remember conversations that went like this:
"Mom, I don't feel well."
"Your fine, have a good day at school."
"Mom, I'm warm."
"Not that warm, here comes the bus."
"Mom, I threw up."
"Good, it's out of your system, don't forget your lunch money."
"Mom, I passed out."
"Drink some orange juice and when you get home preheat the oven to 425."
This is not the case with my duo. I have never seen two young people complain more than my daughters. Ear infections, bronchitis, strained this, that and the other, sore throats, coughing spells, sore muscles, jammed toes, lumps, yes lumps (what is this lump?? - like I know? I just check for another one on the other side of the body and call it good.) headaches and dizziness (lots of dizziness with these two).
The kicker was when I would tell my mother about any illness the girls had this was her reaction, "Oh my goodness Chele!!! Are they okay??" Whaaaaaaat??? I could have had a full on stroke and she would have sent me to school but - you know what... it skips a generation, I know this. And you know what else? I'm better for it. Mom revved up my resistance like you wouldn't believe. I don't get sick, I don't get headaches, I'm a walkin' talkin' poster of health. I can suffer through sniffles, cramps, aches and lumps (matching lumps of course) and suck it up. This is tombstone material people!!!
