Real Life Shrek
I was entertained by the two sides of the Royal Wedding, the haters and the teary-eyed-sappy-folks. I'm part of the latter, does anyone have a Kleenex?
Yes I understand the frustration at the media hype, the 'I can't get the hell away from it.' syndrome, the 'There's so much more important stuff going on in the world.' crowd, the 'Who's paying for this all this pomp and shit?' and the 'We kicked their asses a long time ago.' folk. I get it, I don't agree with it, but I get it.
My opinion, and we can all have them, and thank God in this great country we can express them: Yes there are bad things in the world, but dammit, there are good things! People are good, there are good stories, they may not be the stuff that the evening news thrives on - not a missing single mother or 5 alarm fire, but can we take a break and enjoy a nice story? A happy ever after story? A story of true love, of pomp and circumstance? Of two brothers who are best friends, lost their mother and rallied to not only become men, but serve their country in the military and forever more in royal duty? A story of a common girl who sweeps a Prince off his feet and after ten years is still the love of his life. A story of a country who clings to the traditions of hundreds of years, waving flags, cheering and sporting goosebumps like no others? It gives me goosebumps to know this happens, this is real and just across the pond.
Many people asked why get up at 4am to watch when it would be on the news for weeks, on YouTube and so forth and so on - it's part of the experience, it's knowing that at 5am I was watching William and Harry ride to the Abbey when they are doing it. It made me smile and brought tears to my eyes.
I spent two weeks in London falling in love with the city, the people and dare I say the food (you have to look hard) and it lives in a special place in my heart. Just thinking of London brings tears to my eyes - and the smell of diesel smacks London in my face - UPS trucks smell heavenly to me.
As little girls, we all wish for what happened today. I, am shipping both of my daughters off to London in search of Prince Harry, he'd fit it perfectly with us, he appears to be a wise-assed cutey and I bet he'd like my cooking and Christ All Mighty, I want to wear a bitchin' hat!!
God Save The Queen and Bless the Happy Couple.
