So Much In So Little Time...
We left Maine last Friday to attend my niece's graduation and then spend a relaxing week at the Jersey Shore.
Upon arriving at the hotel the four of us (3 girls mind you) had 2 hours to get ready - with no water. The jackass at the front desk informed us it would be about an hour. We made it but the graduation was moved indoors due to some severe weather moving into the area. We headed back to Brad and Sharon's house to hang with Thurston and Lovey and Bruce. The formula goes like this - don't eat + drink lots = folks getting a bit tipsy. We spent Friday night we spent catching up with Brad, Sharon, Ryan (cool nephew) and my sister-in-law's Mom who, although being not in the least bit techno-savvy used the phrase, "It went viral." much to our delight! Saturday The Donald and I headed down to LBI (Long Beach Island) to pickup the key to our shore house. An adorable little 'old school' beach house. It sat firmly between two recently mcmansionized houses, but you know what? It was lovely. Wood paneling, little bedrooms, and the dining room was an addition with slate floors, off white walls and wood trim - it reminded me of Italy and I immediately lined the buffet with wine bottles Ciao!
Saturday was the graduation party. I had been tasked with mixing the music for the event and overall I think it went well - the music that is - the party was a tremendous success. The Doeles exceed at partying, it's a calling, it's a gift. Brad and Sharon live in a development and have a two rung wooden fence that the young folk were hurdling. After a while, I decided to try it myself. Someone mentioned, "Your husband took a nasty fall trying to jump that fence." Whatever. I was going for it. I got a running start, attempted then froze. I fell onto the fence, sort of straddled it, then flipped around the top rung, holding it like a baby koala holds its Mama. I still have bruises.
It is Wednesday and Don still can't stand right. He's more pissed than anything. Had I not tried to hurdle myself I'd be less sympathetic, but I think for me, I'm doing well.
While all of this was going on, I was getting questions on Facebook from Don's best man Bob. The girls and I are friends with Bob, Don is not. His choice. They seemed to have gone in different directions and Don is okay with leaving it at that. Bob kept asking if we were in NJ, where we were staying, would we visit, could he visit, etc. Then after posting pictures, my mother's cousin asked where Don was from and Bob answered her. It was all too much. We have spent the last 4 years using our vacation time for medical reasons and this was our first real vacation in a long while, I didn't need it to be a hot mess. I unfriended him. Part of me feels bad, but I can't subject Don or any of us to that.
We've been having a wonderful time, eating Jersey food, sun bathing, body surfing, putt putt and just relaxing. I've been reading The Sun Also Rises by Hemingway and I think I'm obsessed with him. Yesterday Ryan showed up and hung with us - the twerp had beer openers in his flip flops! Genius!!! He joined us for dinner and I had a Hemingway drink - some Mojito Frito dealio. It was delicious. Then today I spotted Ernest in the ocean - he was pretty far out, but holding his own.
Tomorrow we'll sun some more, eat more Jersey food and relax a little more. Reality will be back before we know it.
